A stablecoin lending rate is set by pool utilization and climbs steeply once a pool is nearly full. Pooled stablecoin lending protocols do not quote a rate; a smart contract computes one from a single input, the share of the pool that is borrowed. This article walks through that formula, shows the Aave and Compound parameters in force on 20 October 2026 with a dated snapshot of their rates, and works an illustrative example at 50%, 90%, 95% and 100% utilization. It compares supply rates with the three-month Treasury bill yield, then covers the risks the curve cannot remove: blocked withdrawals at full utilization, governance changes, smart-contract, oracle and depeg risk, what the GENIUS Act text says, and what regulators documented about BlockFi and Celsius.

With a 50% starting LTV and an 83% liquidation line, a 39.8% bitcoin drop forces a sale of the collateral. Crypto-backed loans let you borrow dollars or stablecoins against coins you keep owning, but a falling price can force a sale. The guide defines loan-to-value and the three thresholds that matter, runs three hypothetical examples with 0.5 BTC and an Aave-style position, and shows how far bitcoin actually fell in FRED's daily data, both over the last 12 months and from its October 2025 high. It also covers when Aave v3 can liquidate half or all of a debt, what the Celsius court opinion said about customer assets and loan collateral, and what the tax and deposit-insurance rules do and do not say.
Refinancing federal student loans privately can't be undone, so the rate math is only half the decision. A private refinance replaces existing loans with a new private loan to cut the rate or change the term, and for federal loans it ends access to federal repayment plans, forgiveness, deferment and discharge. This guide separates private refinancing from federal consolidation, explains the repayment changes Public Law 119-21 made from July 1, 2026, and works through a $50,000 loan at 7.0% against 5.5% over 10 and 15 years. It also covers co-signer release when a borrower dies, the 2026 student loan interest deduction limits, and the circumstances that favor or argue against refinancing.
